When prison strips away humanity and hope, love becomes an act of resistance.

Team El is a collaborative photo project about the relationship of Lashonia and Sean, a couple who have spent a combined fifty years in prison after being incarcerated for murder as teenagers. After meeting as adults while working in violence prevention, they have created an empowering marriage through their shared commitment to healing from their childhood and carceral trauma. The intimate photographs made by the artist and Lashonia and Sean are a celebration of their unconditional love and liberation.
